The Ways We Come Together

What a week this has been?

As I write this, I am still a little sticky from finishing putting some dishes in the sterilizer after the performance of “The Ugly Duckling” that ended our children’s camp. Director of Religious Education Marena McGregor did an outstanding job writing a script and then organizing a camp in which about 25 children and youth participated (with several members giving the extra effort—thank you amazing volunteers–you know who you are!) The week has been full of scripts, trips to the potty, snacks, storybooks and songs in the Gilmartin Buiilding and Bortin Hall.

In the Sanctuary, activity has also been aplenty. First about a dozen ministerial colleagues joined Rev. Rodney and I for the UU Minister’s Association gathering which was on line–and also in clusters and we made up one of those. Our colleagues were delighted to gather on our campus as we did the work of our group, preparing ministers for these changing times.

And then our delegates, some General Assembly attendees and a few others who just wanted to check it out came to watch the sausage-making processes of democracy at our annual virtual General Assembly of Congregations gathering. The sanctuary was peppered by people who were able to talk together as they watched the process on the screen (and that will continue throughout the weekend.)

Last night some gathered for a solstice service. Others for a meeting. Community circles and 12 step groups happened. It was a full week.

I mention this because it was a week when we gathered in many ways and gathering was a blessing. If you could use a little of that energy, consider tuning in or even coming to church (our Samsung has been serviced and we soon will be able to have service on the patio again. so bring your four-footeds.)

These are trying times and yet coming together is good medicine. How we gather is worth celebrating.
