We finish our first day with a conversation about the Doctrine of Discovery, the 15th century Papal Bull which made it religious work to oppress others in the name of salvation. And a worship gathering focused on hospitality. The stunning paradox there is the hospitality we are experiencing and the tireless efforts of the Tijuana activist community at a time when our nation is taking inhospitality and inhumane treatment to a new low.
All around are glimpses of the border wall, the beauty of the people and the city and signs of this great group of refugees flowing in. Encamped on sidewalks or in fields, they share a tangible sense of community. When will we see ourselves as a worldwide community sharing a common humanity?
