Walnut Creek, CA based Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church (MDUUC) is one of the faith communities successfully navigating the transition to virtual operation during COVID-19. Nationwide the struggle is real. A poll in Church Law & Tax reports that two-thirds of churches report declines in giving. New this summer, multiple members created fundraisers on Facebook that have generated thousands of dollars. And new this week, members can buy a folding chair to proudly display MDUUC’s mission of ‘Transforming Ourselves and Our World,’ suitable for small, distanced gatherings or public witness. $40 covers the cost of the chair and a small bottle of MDUUC-branded hand sanitizer, which can be picked up on designated days at church. Members and friends are encouraged to pay whatever additional amount ‘feels good’ or donate extras to the church for its use. The community has enthusiastically responded, snapping up more than 30 in the first 24 hours! For details or to reserve yours, please go to www.mduuc.org/GIVE while supplies last. And stay tuned to the next creative idea for supporting this faith community living its values.
