The Mt. Diablo UU Church is a part of the larger Unitarian Universalist (UU) world that includes over 1,000 other congregations in the US.

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) administrative offices are headquartered in Boston. In addition to promoting our UU Principles in the larger world, the UUA provides a variety of services, including publishing the UU World magazine for its members, developing religious education curricula for congregations, operating the Beacon Press publishing house and running a bookstore.

The UUA is divided into districts to provide more local service. MDUUC is a member of the Pacific Central District (PCD) of 38 congregations mostly in the Bay Area. The PCD holds an annual District Assembly with workshops, speeches, and a business meeting.

Individuals and congregations participate in social action through many related organizations. A good starting point to find out more information on these activities is the Social Justice Department of the UUA. The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is a membership organization that promotes and protects human rights in the United States and other parts of the world. The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office serves UU congregations as the center of information, advocacy and action at the United Nations and its affiliated agencies in New York City. The UU Legislative Ministry California (UULMCA) represents UU congregations in California in Sacramento. The UULMCA lobbies on crucial issues in cooperation with other denominations and advocacy groups on our behalf.

Our congregation has been active in ecological issues. These are coordinated nationally by Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth which supports UU's who are working to make living in covenant with the interdependent web of life a reality within the UUA, in congregations, and in their personal lives.

There are many groups withing the UU movement that share a particular religious perspective including the Covenant of UU Pagans (CUUPS), Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship (UUCF), the Unitarian Universalist Buddhist Fellowship (UUBF), and Unitarian Universalist Women & Religion (UUWR). There are many other affiliated groups, such as Interweave, comprised of bisexual, gay, heterosexual, lesbian, and transgender people allied to confront oppression and to celebrate the lives of its members.

One of the two UU theological schools that educate ministers is the Starr King School for the Ministry, located in Berkeley. It also offers programs for lay leaders.

Our denomination is related to other Unitarian national groups of congregations around the world through the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists (ICUU). The Unitarian group with the longest history is in the Transylvanian region of Romania, founded in 1586. They are liberal Christians who are ethnic Hungarians. Our congregation has a Partner Church relationship with the Unitarian church in Erdoszentgyorgy.
