Our Principles

There are seven principles which MDUUC and all other Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

The Mt. Diablo UU Church is a part of the larger Unitarian Universalist (UU) world that includes over 1,000 other congregations in the US.

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) administrative offices are headquartered in Boston. In addition to promoting our UU Principles in the larger world, the UUA provides a variety of services, including publishing the UU World magazine for its members, developing religious education curricula for congregations, operating the Beacon Press publishing house and running a bookstore.

The UUA is divided into districts to provide more local service. MDUUC is a member of the Pacific Central District (PCD) of 38 congregations mostly in the Bay Area. The PCD holds an annual District Assembly with workshops, speeches, and a business meeting.
